My message on “International Day of Disabled Persons”,I hope to see it change to “International Day of Differently-Abled People”. I am a 17 yrs old Autistic person. I want to see my abilities as my power not by being a disabled person but by being a differently-abled person. I am an Autistic person.
Disability is not my identity , my identity is I am a Neurodivergent person having different abilities. The word Disability is not an identity for any human being, disabilities are the challenges which one face in their life , different people with different challenges in life, some face mental challenges some face physical challenges in any phase of the life,so Disability is not a Identity, according to my perceptions I I always see my challenges as turning point, everyone should take their challenges as stepping stone in the life.
The word Neuro means our nervous system and Diversity means different, so Neurodiversity means nervous system functioning differently, it’s not dead, Neurodiversity is common in each person because every person is different and Neurodivergent in one or the other way ,every behavior is different in each person, but people with different abilities is always been identified as disable person in the society so I want to change the perception towards seeing Neurodivergent person, the word Neurodivergent is the right way to identify differently abled person.
Autism is not a disability then why person with Autism is issued disability certificate but now it has changed common to all differently abled person only one card is issued ie UDID card and Neurodivergent person is not disable so why this card is listed in their identity, why government is not changing the card name if I would get opportunity to change the card then I wish I could have changed it to UAID ie Unique Ability Identity Card. It is the right identity card for Neurodivergent person,I am not amending the rules ,I am just requesting the government, Please change the identity card for Neurodivergent people so that they can have equal respect in the society, its time to think, rethink ,rebuild ,regulate rights in a sensible manner. Please take my words as a turning page in democracy.
Every human being is born with different skills and different talents so every person should get equal opportunities and equal respect in society. Differently-abled people have a lot of physical and mental challenges but it doesn’t mean that they are disabled. They just need a special way of teaching, treatment and training. Today you all are using the word disability, and on the other side you are celebrating this Disability Day by showcasing many talents and skills of differently-abled people. What is it? I am so confused! Very sad to know that in spite of having so many challenges and struggling in life, people with special needs are trying hard to learn new skills, and trying to show their abilities, but with getting the label of disability they are just losing their identity.rights to fight for our needs is the golden rules of Advocacy for every human being, just reading different inspirational stories of differently abled persons is more ridiculous,to bring it in action is more important, infrastructural facilities for differently abled person are more important gestures through which we can safeguard individuals with special needs, the list of infrastructure resources which I wish to see in all inclusive schools, colleges, public places in society are
1. Inclusive schools and colleges may be driving their duties towards uplifting the needs of specially abled children but still there is some nimbleness lacking to fight for their future endeavors. Giving every child equal opportunity for literacy is the basic right of special needs, respect for their skills but literacy is also important.
2. Providing electronic devices for special needs for those who struggle with motor challenges, typing rather than writing ,allowing typing in examination halls.
3. Giving proper guidelines for Different tasks which are likely to be followed.
4. Right to Communicate is every human’s right so provide AAC in every inclusive school. Giving voice to every child should be the first Motto of every educational institution.
5. Good part of Autism is some Autistics have photographic memory and savant skills ,so on hiring people with Autism Many companies are going to develop in a faster way, they only need good communication partners at the workplace, they need empathy.
6. Bullying is seen everywhere in schools, colleges and in society. The most sad part of the government policies is there are no right actions and strict law’s found towards special needs safety.Special needs are the more victims of Bullying.
There are so many differently-abled people who are great artists, poets, writers, singers, dancers, cartoonists, sportsmen, philosophers, etc. holding different abilities in them. They beat the word disability and established their own legacy with special skills, I am one among them who is now taking the role of a soldier to fight against the label ‘disability’. I will fight for special needs people and like to see many people joining me in this initiative. Today, special needs people rank with unique skills, just want to give a few examples of mine. I have some savant skills. I have some photographic memories. I get intuitions. I can do mental math. Unlimited thoughts are always in my mind surrounded with imagination. Autism is not my Disability, it’s my Divinity. Being different is a special gift to me from God, but still I feel sad when I turn my eyes towards my Disability Certificate. I want my Certificate to be changed . It’s time to change the perception of society towards special needs people by eliminating the word ‘disabled’. We need more empathy than sympathy. We have the right to lead a life with respect without the Identity of Disability.
